Don't try this at home!

Unless, of course, you've engaged in adequate preparation. It was MANY months before I would allow Tahoe and Coral to spend time together in the same outdoor cage. However, they're great friends and really seem to enjoy each other's company, so we do what works. To be sure, you just can't smash two birds together and expect them to be friends. Though each lives in a separate cage, Tahoe and Coral made the conscious choice and by their actions over a number of months demonstrated the trust necessary for them to be allowed to spend play time together.
